Another successful league campaign came to its conclusion with some excellent football and entertaining matches again on show.
Premiership Castle Youth re-wrote the record books after becoming the first Beacon League side to retain the prestigious Birmingham County FA Sunday Junior Cup, defeating Solihull & District Oakbourne League outfit Beaufort United 2-1 at Ray Hall Lane.
The cup 'specialists' then went on to remarkably retain both the Lester Charity and First 4 Staff Premier Cup after victories over Sportsman Saints and Sedgley White Lions respectively.
After three years as runners up, Sedgley White Lions lifted the Lawsons Premiership title after pipping neighbours and local rivals Sedgley White Lions Crown to the prize by a solitary point. The Champions were no doubt indebted to the 44 goals scored by Danny Crudgington along the way.
Bell Inn Casuals celebrated their success as Brighthouse Division 1 winners, losing only one match in the process. Dynamo Dragons who had battled all the way to the finish claimed the runners up spot.
It was a case of the day of the 'underdogs' in the Walsall Injury Clinic Beacon Cup Final as basement side Wombourne Wanderers took on second place Dynamo. With neither side able to muster a goal after 120 minutes of football, it went to the dreaded penalties. Wombourne converting all five to win the shootout 5-3.
Second division champions Wednesbury Athletic met Orton Vale in the Novotel Wolverhampton Clinton Cup Final. Again, extra time was required to decide the outcome and after clawing back a 2-0 deficit, Vale went on to grab a 4-3 triumph, the winning goal coming from Ben Walters and prevent Wednesbury completing the double.
Dave Edgley from Sedgley White Lions Crown collected the Secretary of the Year award, whilst Gornal Athletic West's Helen Hollis was awarded New Secretary of the Year.
The Fair Play Trophy, awarded to a team/s in each division with the best discipline, was won by Premiership Codsall Athletic, Phoenix Seniors and Wombourne Wanderers from Division 1 and Dudley Predators, who collected the second division award.
The league, for the first time, also presented a top goal scorer's trophy and Gornal Athletic West's Robert Gill was a worthy winner after notching 63 goals during the campaign.
James Ralph was named as Referee of the Year for his services to the league throughout the season.
A special presentation was made to committee member Denis Oakley upon his retirement by league chairman Brian Lester. Denis had given over thirty years wonderful service to the league in various capacities and was thanked for his sterling work by all member clubs and committee present.
