Looking for Someone to Play!
Cast your minds back to 1977, Saturday Night Fever was showing at the cinema, flares were fashionable to wear! and a pint of beer would cost you roughly 27p. David Clinton a youth club leader with St Chads was also in the headlines as he wrote to the Wolverhampton Chronicle looking for teams to play football against his youth club team - surely he could not have forseen how his 'invention' was to materialise during the years that followed.
From humble beginnings and a membership initially consisting of seven teams, Beacon League has continued to flourish season after season to offer clubs a friendly, helpful organisation in which to play football and realistically compete for league and cup honours.
Initially operating as a under 19 league, the committee took the decision to move to open age football at the start of the 1984/85 season due to the increasing interest from teams within the area. Many formers players have progressed on to a higher level with a chosen few even making the professional circuit. The league is now a highly respected adult Sunday afternoon outfit serving Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas.
