BCFA Sunday Challenge Vase - the history
The Sunday Challenge Vase, first competed for during the 1987/88 season, gives the Birmingham County Football Association's member Clubs the chance to compete on a County wide basis with other teams outside of their regular league Competition.
The league's success in the County FA's Sunday Junior Cup during the early years of the new Millenium led to a review of entrants and in 2011 it was decided that all of our Premier Division clubs would now play in the Sunday Challenge Vase.
The first Beacon League Club to have reached the final were Phoenix Castle who narrowly lost out 1-0 to Punchbowl Saints from the Birmingham Coronation League in 2012.
History was created though in 2015 when both finalists came from our league, Sportsman and Cottage Spring Castle battling out a keenly contested tie which saw Sportsman become the first of our entrants to win the elusive trophy, sealing the tie 1-0 courtesy of Jason Batchelor's first half goal.
