Super Cooper Sets Up Treble For Cup Kings
Thursday 12th May 2011
|Castle Youth||8 v 1||Sedgley White Lions|
James Cooper 13, 31 (Pen), 79, 90
Danny Crudgington 20
Four goals from James Cooper helped Castle Youth to complete a treble of cup triumphs for a second successive season after a convincing win in the Final of the First 4 Staff Premier Cup over Premier League Champions Sedgley White Lions.
Cooper's first goal arrived after 13 minutes, flicking over advancing keeper Alex Moczadlo in the Sedgley goal and it could have been much worse for the Lions four minutes later when Mike Robertson cleared off the line from Andy Cooper's header.
Sedgley dug deep and were rewarded midway through the first half. Castle's defence pushed forward and Danny Crudgington beat the offside trap to lob the ball over Hayfield for his 44th goal of the campaign.
Both teams went in search of the second goal - first Sedgley's George Smith cleared brilliantly off the line from James Cooper's goal bound effort and four minutes later Mike Robertson's 25 yard effort smashed against the crossbar for the Lions. The second goal did finally arrive and came via the penalty spot - James Cooper notching his second of the night.
A depleted Sedgley outfit struggled to contain the holders and they took command with six second half goals. Jay Williams notched the third after 57 minutes, before Hayfield saved well to deny both Sedgley's Nick and Mike Robertson a way back into the match. Substitute Mark Edwards netted the fourth before Cooper completed his hat-trick with a simple finish.
Three goals in the last four minutes, courtesy of Dean Lacey, Cooper's fourth and the last from Chris Turner made for a comfortable victory and a second successive season of a treble of cup wins.
